Period of validity of the temporary registration certificate is extended to 5 working days

According to the modifications of the modified Grand-Ducal regulation of 26 January 2016 on the reception and registration of road vehicles, dated 20 September 2018, the temporary registration certificate, issued by the car professional, when the customer wants to keep his old personalised registration number to use it on his new vehicle to be registered, is valid for up to 5 working days.

Professionals now have 5 working days to carry out all the steps related to vehicle registration, reusing a personalised registration number, and the handing over of the vehicle to the final customer, instead of 3 days previously. The customer can therefore still drive with the old vehicle, after handing over his registration certificate, for 5 working days, the duration of the temporary registration certificate having been extended to 5 working days.

Thanks to these two additional days, it is now possible to have all new vehicle files, including those with a personalised registration number transfer, processed by the SNCA through the block deposit service, without any risk of impacting the end customer.

The SNCA is therefore asking professional clients to deposit all their new vehicle files in block deposit as far as possible and to no longer use the appointment slots to register a new vehicle except in the event of an emergency or if the client has to travel abroad with the old vehicle.

For professionals who do not yet have access to the temporary registration certificate management system, please contact the SNCA to obtain a client account and a login.
