In the interests of safety and security, the carriage of dangerous goods by road is regulated internationally by harmonised rules that are kept in line with technical progress.
By the law of 23 April 1970, the Grand Duchy ratified the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).
ADR in practice in the Grand Duchy
The Grand-Ducal Regulation of 31 January 2003 on the carriage of dangerous goods by road, as amended, specifies the conditions for the application of the ADR in the Grand Duchy.
If the provisions of the Annexes to the ADR so provide, any vehicle used for the carriage of dangerous goods on the roads of the Grand Duchy or which undergoes one of the loading or unloading operations covered by the Annexes to the ADR, must be covered by a certificate of approval.
The SNCA ensures that the rules and technical specifications for ADR vehicles are respected and issues the ADR certificate of approval.
